Olivia's First Summer of Camping...

Well folks, we have an 18 pound professional camper on our hands! We started off the summer traveling to Brownlee resevoir for a weekend in April. The weather was still chilly so you know who had to get bundled up. Since we have the travel trailer, we don't usually have any issues keeping warm!

Next time we went out was to Three Island Crossing in Glenn's Ferry. We went with two other couples and had a blast. The campsite is just down the street from Carmela Winery so we went for a tour to see how they make their wines. The tour host was sort of strange and was wearing an airbrushed shirt that said "Mi vida Loca". I guess people get crazy in Glenn's Ferry!

Next up was Redfish lake, this was still early season so we got 70 degree weather along with some snow! Olivia enjoyed napping by a roaring campfire and going on some walks with mom and dad down to the lake. We had dinner at Redfish lodge that couldn't hold a candle to the great food we made at our camp. The food at Redfish Lodge wasn't that good at all, and the service was pretty bad. It seemed as though there were some college dropouts that worked there and didn't really care about anything but "being cool dude".

Moving along a few weeks and we were at Ponderosa Pine State Park in McCall. This place is strange. All the campsites are jammed together and there were people everywhere! This is a good spot if you have kids in the 5 to 10 range. They were all our riding bikes and playing. Thing is, when there were a bunch of kids you had no idea which child belonged to which campsite! So we had strange kids running around the entire time. The other thing is the park rangers are pretty rude. We were around a fire and playing the radio (quietly I might add) and they just walked up and said to shut it off! No warning, no courtesy, no respect.... We won't go here again.

Redfish Lake again. More of the same... Good scenery, good weather..... The only thing I wish is that we would have seen more wildlife. Redfish is so crowded though I don't think any animals really want to be there.

Alturas Lake. This place gets six stars out of five! Alturas Lake is absolutely amazing. The lake and beach are spectacular, as well as the surrounding mountains. Steve, the campsite host, was very personable and great to talk to. He said that two wolves were in the campground a few days before we got there. The first night and Sarah, Olivia, and I were sitting around the campfire we could hear Elk calling in the distance.. a very haunting sound to say the least. The moon was so bright that you could walk through the woods and didn't need a flashlight. The campsites are also spread apart so you aren't camping on top of other people. That is a huge bonus! We will definitely be visiting Alturas again.. hopefully several times next summer.

Finally, (and potentially the last of the season) was Warm Lake. We went with Shawn, Dawn, Dillon, and Savannah. This was a great time to be up there, not too many people out and most of the campgrounds are closed. We definitely had to have some warm campfires at night! Lots of hunters were up there because bow season was open. We never saw any deer coming back in with the hunters but they were defintely trying. All of them were up at dawn and coming back in late in the evening.
